Food and Nutrition for our Friends

A correct diet is based on the nutritional needs of the individual who consumes it, according to his specific needs.  There is no best diet, only a correct diet. The well-being of our friends also passes through nutrition, which is also important for the psyche, to help our animals in cognitive, emotional and relational growth (psycho-nutrition, i.e. food as a neuro-cognitive experience).

The heat is coming... How to behave with our faithful friends??

Adelchi Rainone

Summer brings with it the risk of heatstroke for dogs, as they spend more time outdoors than cats. However, many owners underestimate the problem and are not alert to the symptoms of heatstroke, which can be fatal for their four-legged friends. Dogs have an average body temperature of 38.5°C and regulate their temperature by breathing with their mouths open. When it is too hot and humid, this method of thermoregulation may not be enough. Owners can protect their dogs from heat exposure by providing them with fresh water, avoiding taking them out during rush hour and considering taking them to the beach. You can relieve your dog's heat with gadgets such as cooling mats and bandanas. It is important to remember that it is illegal to leave a dog locked in a car in the sun and that law enforcement can intervene to protect the animals.

Parasites, let's try to get to know them and defend ourselves...

Adelchi Rainone

The summer season is the perfect time to take long walks with your dog in the countryside, in the woods or simply enjoy the warmth of the sun. But like all good things, there are also negative aspects, including the presence of parasites that can be annoying and dangerous for our four-legged friend. Parasites are organisms that draw vital substances from another living being, called a host. They can be definitive, intermediate, accidental or paratenic, and can be ectoparasites, which live outside the animal's body, or endoparasites, which live inside. The parasites that most affect dogs are fleas, lice, ticks, mosquitoes, sandflies and horse flies. Fleas are wingless insects that feed on blood and settle in hair thanks to their flattened lateral shape. They are mainly active between late spring and early autumn, but can survive even a mild winter. Flea eggs are laid in dark and damp environments such as the kennels, bedding and blankets of our animals, and even the upholstery of the house can become an ideal place for their proliferation. To prevent flea infestation, it is important to maintain good hygiene of the animal and its surroundings. Other ectoparasites that can infest our dog include mites (such as ticks) and fungi (such as fungi, molds and yeasts). Prevention is always the best way to protect our furry friend from these annoying parasites.
